Attractions on Batam Island: North Sumatra

Contrary to some beliefs Batam Island does have some interesting places to see. Batam is quite famous for its nightlife and has great pubs, Karaoke Bars, Theatres, Discos etc with the centre of the nightlife being in Nagoya. It is also in this area you will find numerous hotels, shops and restaurants as well as international Banks and Money Changers. If shopping is your passion then you will find boutiques and shops selling duty free goods. However, there are a couple of other cultural places to visit.

Vihara Buddhi Bhakti Temple

A Chinese temple in Nagoya where the local people conduct their daily prayers and festival rituals.

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple

One of the biggest Buddhist temples in South-East Asia. Located in Batam Centre the temple hosts one statues of Buddha and two statues of the Goddess of Mercy. Bizzarely enough, located within the district of the temple are souvenirs shop and a restaurant.

Please keep in mind that Bintan island (right next to Batam) has also many interesting features for tourists, besides the 5-star hotels in Bintan Resorts. Visit http://www.mutiarabintan.com to find out more about Off-Beat Bintan experiences. Highly recommended!
