Sumatra Elephant Eco Lodge: Bandar Lampung, Sumatra

There are numerous eco lodges to be found in the archipelago and these alternative forms of accommodation are ideal for those who are environmentally conscious and are lovers of nature. In general, these eco lodges are located near national parks or close to places that are involved with the rehabilitation of the flora and fauna of Indonesia. One of these lodges can be found only 500 metres from the Way Kambas National Park. Getting to the lodge only takes a couple of hours from Lampung and it is ideal for nature lovers.

Cheap Indonesia hotels just got easier to find

Padang HotelWe’ve just added a really cool new way to search for hotels in Indonesia to this site and we think you are going to like it. You might be aware that many hotels in this country are listed on some travel-booking sites and not on others, and sometimes they are listed for one price on one and for another price on the next. Now you can get through that mess with just a couple clicks.

When you see the new hotels section you’ll find a list of cities on that page. Clicking on …

Poinciana Resort: Tembok, Bali

Located in the small village of Tembok, situated on the north-east coast of Bali is the truly magnificent Poinciana Resort. Far from the madding crowd of the tourist mecca in the south-west of the island, the resort offers a unique place to chill out and relax. I say that because there are no televisions, radios or the ilk to annoy you in the room you reside in whilst you are there – just pure peace. Delightful!. Having never been there before, I was indeed curious as to what kind of resort it was going to be as we drove down the narrow leading off the main north-east road. The first thing that struck me was the seclusion and the beauty of its natural location right on the beach. Instantly, any reservations I possessed about the place dissipated immediately.

Ibu Kompiang – Grand Dame of Sanur Tourism

mini-ibu-komang.jpgHomesick for Bali in 1956, Ida Bagus Kompiang and his wife, Anak Agung Mirah Asthuti Kompiang, sold their successful export business in Surabaya and used the proceeds to purchase a hectare of land on Bali’s Sanur Beach where they constructed 25 traditional bungalows and a small restaurant. A half century ago, Sanur was very much a sleepy seaside village with little grasp by anyone of what tourism actually entailed. In those early days, the Kompiang’s only neighbors were a Belgium painter Le Mayeur, a Dutchman and a local cemetery.

Historic Hotel Surabaya Partially Destroyed: Bandung, West Java

Bandung Heritage activists were recently outraged watching the demolition works on parts of Hotel Surabaya, a structure that witnessed the early development of the West Java capital of Bandung. Located on Jl. Kebonjati near the Bandung railway station, the hotel was built by a Chinese businessman in 1884 when the station to connect the city with Batavia, the former name of Jakarta, was also being constructed.

Raffles Builds its Brand in Bali

mini-dreamland.jpgA lot of travellers to Bali that have visited Dreamland in Jimbaran, Bali, in years gone past will remember this idyllic spot as a secluded refuge away from the hustle and bustle of the pollution-choked Kuta strip. However, little by little recently the small warungs and losmens on the cliffs and around the area have disappeared making way for housing and villa development. Gone is the charm that Dreamland once had. That’s just the way things are in Bali. Personally, I think the island is being totally saturated with development. And, this development seems set to continue with a new resort being planned for Dreamland. According to Travelmole, in a further boost to confidence in Bali, Raffles Hotels & Resorts has started construction on its new property above Dreamland beach in Jimbaran.

Villa Pantulan: Bali

mini-villa-p.jpgIn Bali there are literally hundreds of villas for tourists to rent for the duration of their holiday. There are also those upmarket Villas that offer the very best in accommodation for the discerning traveller. Although I wouldn’t consider myself in this league, mainly because I dislike ostentatiousness, there is one place I would stay should the desire take to relax and be pampered in 5-star luxury and at the same time being surrounded by the beautiful countryside Bali has to offer – the Villa Pantulan.

Booming Spa Market: Bali

The spa industry in Bali has experienced a growth period in the last couple of years as spas — incorporating beauty salons, hair dressers and luxury treatments — have emerged into one of the island’s main tourist attractions. At the same time, the world has started to acknowledge Bali’s tourism operators as providers of world-class spa services. In 2005 and 2007, the AsiaSpa magazine named the island its “Asian Spa Capital”.
