Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and the main entry point into the country. Each year, millions of tourists use the city’s airport and spend time here with good reason, too. Jakarta is an interesting blend of cosmopolitan shopping and excellent nightlife, all mixed with the Asian feel.

Thanks to the many airlines using the city’s airport as hub, finding cheap flights to Jakarta isn’t an issue. Still, it always pays off to do the research in advance.

An airport serving the city or is it two?

Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) receives all international flights and almost all domestic flights into the city. It is located 20 km from the city center. Many hotels offer free airport transport. The airport is hub for: Batavia Air, Cardig Air, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Kartika Airlines, Lion Air, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Republic Express Airlines, Sriwijaya Air and Wings Air. There are direct flights from Europe Australia, Asia and Middle East. There are no direct flights from North America.

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) is the second airport serving Jakarta. It used to be the main one before Soekarno Hatta International Airport opened. It is hub for several domestic airlines an also receives charter flights.

Ways to save money on flights to Jakarta

Peak season in Jakarta is between June and August and that’s when the airfare is at its highest. Plan to travel in spring (March to May) or fall (September to November) when the airfare is at its lowest and you won’t be running into crowds either.

Book your ticket ahead of time, regardless of when you plan to visit. Check various websites and don’t forget to sign up for newsletters from airlines flying into Jakarta.

If there are no non-stop options from your city to Jakarta or the rates seem too high, try connecting via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, as there are plenty of flights from these two cities and the rates are very low.
