Jalan Maliboro is the centre of attention on New Year’s Eve with party revellers blowing cardboard trumpets, letting off firecrackers and in general having a great time. It is a busy time in Yogyakarta and a night of celebration not to be missed. I have had New Year’s Eve in a lot of the major cities in the archipelago but none matches the friendliness as that in Yogyakarta. The foto was taken as I stand in Jalan Mangkubumi looking down towards Jalan Malioboro.
